Out at sea my voyage and me
The waves knock hard, but my ship sails steadily
Back on the land the buildings stand
The wind blows and has pressing demands
So they sway and sway but together they stay
And the shade they create makes the people’s skin grey
And the values they lack are made up in compensation
For the buildings they build are great and sensational
But the shade they create turns the people’s skin grey
So the people wear shades to disguise their face
‘Cause the buildings they build let them save face
So they get on their hands and knees and pray
But the more the time passes, the more pigment fades
Now they’re all grey and disguised with shades
And the wind still blows and the buildings still sway
But the buildings themselves won’t ever blow away
Now the wind brings a draft and the shade makes it cold
So people cover up with monochrome coats
Walking the streets looking up at the buildings
Knowing that’s what they want and that’s where they’ll be
The top of the building working diligently
Ignoring the wind and monochromality
It’s the same wind that moves me out at sea
But back in the town they use it differently
They block it off and at best let it be
That beautiful wind that moves me at sea
So they walk but don’t talk uniform and rigidly
While I’m sailing peacefully and freely at sea
They could marvel all day at the buildings at bay
Because they don’t see that they’re all the same
They’re all grey with shades and scarves and coats
With their architects and plans for moats
The buildings they grow as the people aspire
While I’m still at sea where I’ll peacefully retire
